World discsuss record holder Mykolas Alekna,  will renew his rivalry with Australia’s Matthew Denny at the Golden Oval in Dresden on 1 June at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting.

The 21-year-old became the first male athlete ever to surpass the 75-meter barrier, a feat that cements his status as one of the greatest discus throwers of all time. Denny launched a massive 74.78m, a mark that would have broken the previous world record had Alekna not gone even further.

Their duel in Dresden will be a must-watch event, especially with a strong German contingent adding depth to the competition. Clemens Prufer, Daniel Jasinski, and Henrik Janssen, will all be vying for podium spots.

The Golden Oval will feature an array of elite field event specialists. Reigning Olympic champions Yemisi Ogunleye (shot put) and Valarie Allman (discus) are confirmed, bringing their world-class talent to the German meet. Additionally, Malaika Mihambo, the 2020 Olympic and reigning European long jump champion, is set to compete.

The track events will also deliver high-speed drama, with four members of Germany’s bronze medal-winning 4x100m relay team from Paris 2024, Alexandra Burghardt, Rebekka Haase, Sophia Junk, and Lisa Mayer—racing individually in the 100m. They’ll face stiff competition from Teahna Daniels, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic finalist from the United States.

Fans worldwide can catch the Golden Oval live on the European Athletics website, with full streaming details for the 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour events to be announced in the coming weeks.

With world records under threat and Olympic champions in action, the Golden Oval in Dresden is shaping up to be one of the season’s most electrifying meets.
