Olympic champion Noah Lyles has hinted at the possibility of stepping into the 400m event this season, a move that could see him line up alongside his fiancée, Jamaican Olympian Junelle Bromfield.
Known for his dominance in the 200m and 100m sprints, Lyles has frequently spoken about testing his versatility on the track, with the 400m race featuring prominently among his career goals. In April, he took a significant step toward that ambition by clocking 45.87 seconds at the Tom Jones Memorial, his first 400m appearance as a professional athlete, and his first in nearly nine years.
Lyles Keeping His Options Open

While speculation continues to swirl around whether he will regularly compete in the 400m this year, Lyles remains noncommittal, suggesting that any such appearances would be more about building endurance and keeping fit ahead of major competitions.
“You know what’s wild is every year you ask, I get closer and closer to running it,” Lyles told RunBlogRun.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen as much this year, but we were practicing today and thought of the idea of putting together an All-Star 4×4 relay for the New Balance Grand Prix , which would be pretty cool.”
Lyles ultimately opted to stick to the 60m dash at the event, where he clinched victory in what turned out to be his final indoor race of the season.
Bromfield Yet to Open Her 2025 Season

Meanwhile, two-time Olympian Junelle Bromfield, is yet to make her 2025 season debut. The Jamaican star, who played a key role in her nation’s 4x400m relay bronze medal win at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has kept fans guessing about her future after an inactive start to the year.
Bromfield, who also featured in the 400m semifinals at the Paris Olympic Games, continues to be a significant figure in the one-lap race, and track enthusiasts are eager to see if a competitive appearance alongside her fiancé could materialize this year.
As the outdoor season heats up and preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo intensify, all eyes will be on whether Noah Lyles makes good on his hints — and whether a Lyles-Bromfield pairing in the 400m becomes one of the sport’s surprise highlights of 2025.
