Olympics 800m silver medalist, Tsige  Duguma ,a new middle distance force is rewriting the script in the women’s 800m in 2025.

At just 24, Tsige has stamped her authority on the women’s two-lap event with world-class times and unshakable poise. Her emphatic victory at the Shanghai Diamond League , where she clocked a jaw-dropping 1:56.64, sent shockwaves through the sport.

The performance not only earned her gold, but also shattered the Meet Record (MR), World Lead (WL), and Ethiopian National Record (NR). Tha was a triple crown of achievement in one breathtaking run.

That statement win was a direct message to her fiercest rivals, Mary Moraa of Kenya and Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain.

In Shanghai, Tsige Duguma pulled away in the final 200 meters with devastating strength and control. She left no doubt about her intentions for the rest of the season.

She backed that up with another impressive display in Rabat, winning the 800m in 1:57.42 and solidifying her status as the Diamond League points leader with a perfect 16.

These results have given Tsige two of the three fastest 800m times of the year, cementing her position at the top ranks this year

But Tsige’s talent extends beyond the 800m. In 2024, she claimed gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, becoming the world indoor champion over 800m.

She’s also the Ethiopian national champion in the 400m, showcasing her rare combination of speed and stamina. The traits that are giving her an edge on both the national and international stage.

With a small, dedicated team around her, Tsige is locked in on a mission. We might experience her turning last year’s Olympic silver medal from Paris into World Championship gold in Tokyo later this year.
