Trey Cunningham extended his red-hot season on Saturday as he surged to victory in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Adidas Atlanta City Games.
Clocking 13.16 seconds, Cunningham maintained his unbeaten streak and outpaced fellow American Freddie Crittenden, who finished second in 13.33.
The 2022 World Championships silver medalist is clearly carrying over the momentum from his impressive performances on the Grand Slam Track circuit. After a tough couple of years plagued by injury and near-misses, Cunningham has been on a mission in 2025, and it’s showing on the track.
Cunningham stunned the athletics world in April when he handed Olympic champion Grant Holloway his first defeat on U.S. soil in 11 years at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. That race saw Cunningham blaze to a world-leading 13.09 seconds, narrowly edging Holloway’s 13.18.
His resurgence comes after a difficult stretch that saw him falter at the 2023 USA Championships with a modest 13.23 and miss out on the Paris Olympics with a disappointing ninth-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Trials. But Cunningham’s 2024 campaign has been nothing short of electric. He matched his personal best of 13.00 at the Miami Grand Slam meet and even showcased his flat speed by winning the 100m in a lifetime best of 10.17.
Now firmly back in world-class form, Cunningham has ranked among the top three performers globally this year and is fast becoming one of the season’s standout hurdlers. Trey Cunningham will headline the Grand Slam Track Philadelphia meet from May 30 to June 1, chasing his second Slam title.
