Peres Jepchirchir, Joyciline Jepkosgei, and Tigst Assefa are the headline contenders for the 2025 London Marathon. These elites will battle for the title at the 45th edition of the London Marathon, set in the iconic streets of London, on April 27, 2025, to secure victory in a race featuring the strongest field ever assembled.

Peres Jepchirchir, the defending champion and reigning Olympic gold medalist, returns to London after her 42.195 kilometres victory in 2024. Joyciline Jepkosgei, the 2021 London Marathon winner, brings her formidable speed and experience. Meanwhile, Tigst Assefa, the two-time Berlin Marathon champion and Olympic silver medalist, enters with the second-fastest marathon time in history. Their presence, alongside other global stars, sets the stage for a race that could redefine the limits of women’s marathon running..

Peres Jepchirchir, Joyciline Jepkosgei, and Tigst Assefa will be joined by a stellar cast, including world record holder Ruth Chepngetich and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan. Six women in the elite field have personal bests under 2:17, an unprecedented level of depth and speed. Organisers and experts alike have called this the greatest women’s elite field ever seen in the London Marathon. Moreover, the team presents a possibility of records-breaking and new legends emerging.

Who Is Peres Jepchirchir?

Peres Jepchirchir is a Kenyan distance runner with a decorated career.  She has Olympic marathon gold at Tokyo 2021, two World Half Marathon golds (2016, 2020), and major wins in Boston, New York, and Valencia. Moreover, she has set three world records and is renowned for her finishing speed and tactical racing. Jepchirchir grew up in a large family in western Kenya and began running competitively as a teenager. She is married to Davis Ngeno, who supports her training, and they have a daughter, Natalia.
