Olympic Champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo Plots June Comeback

After almost a year out of individual races, double Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo plans to return this June.

The Bahamian sprint star, who endured a difficult 2024 season disrupted by injury, is easing her way back into training with hopes of competing in a “very soft” meet in the coming weeks, according to her father and coach, Shaun Miller.

“She will probably be ready for a light race in June sometime,” Miller revealed in an interview with Sportsmax.TV.

“If everything stays on schedule, you should be seeing her opening up in a very soft meet, probably somewhere in the Florida area.”

The 31-year-old last raced individually at the 2024 Bahamian Trials, exiting the 200m heats with a leg injury. Although she qualified for the Paris Olympics through world ranking, her recurring injury forced her out mid-race, ending her defence.

Since then, Miller-Uibo has been on a cautious road to recovery, gradually rebuilding her fitness.

“She’s not 100 per cent right now, but she’s getting there,” her father shared.

“We’re just trying to get the wheels back on right now. She looks pretty solid in training—one or two little small issues, but nothing much to really get worried about.”

Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who welcomed her son Maicel in April 2023, clearly draws motivation for her comeback from family and ambition.

“Her plans are hopefully that her kid should be able to get an opportunity to see her do a few races before the retirement comes up,” Miller noted.

While final decisions on whether she’ll focus on the 200m or 400m remain pending, early signs suggest a leaning towards her signature 400m event.

“We just want to make sure that she stays a little healthy right now, that’s the main issue,” her coach emphasized.

While avoiding solo races recently, Miller-Uibo’s 49-second relay times hint at her returning elite speed.

“Which means there is a level of endurance still there,” Shaun Miller added.

Now, with the immediate goal of a mid-2025 competitive return, the Miller camp remains cautiously optimistic. “She’s not rushing it,” Miller confirmed.

“We just want to get her back out there healthy.”

Athletics fans eagerly await the reigning champion’s return, as one of the sport’s most graceful 400m runners plans a comeback.
