Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson is poised to make her competitive return at this July’s London Diamond League meet.

The British middle-distance star lit up the London Stadium last year, clocking a remarkable 1:54.61 in the 800 metres to set a new British record — a performance that paved the way for her Olympic gold medal triumph in Paris.

Now 23, Hodgkinson sidelined herself since February after tearing her hamstring but is eager to return to the track.

In a statement released by British Athletics, she reflected on the excitement of last year’s race.

“I remember thinking after that run, ‘can we do that all over again?’ It was a dream to compete in the Olympic stadium, and I’m really excited to be back and see what I can do this time.”

While thrilled to call herself an Olympic champion, Hodgkinson says her ambitions remain high.

“I still haven’t won world gold, so I’ve set some really big goals for this summer. Having the home crowd behind me in London, plus a world-class field to race against, will be the perfect preparation as I build towards the World Championships in Tokyo.”

The London Diamond League will take place on July 19, and the World Championships will begin on September 13 in Tokyo.

Hodgkinson, a two-time world silver medallist, famously claimed Olympic silver at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games before securing gold in Paris last year.
