Kenya’s long-distance running sensation Beatrice Chebet delivered a spectacular performance on Sunday evening, winning the women’s 3000m at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco with a stunning world-leading time of 8:11.56, a new Diamond League record.

The 25-year-old, who already holds the world record in the 10,000m, showcased her dominance over shorter distances by outpacing a competitive field and rewriting the record books once again. Chebet, known for her blistering finishing kick and exceptional track endurance, continues to cement her status as one of the most formidable athletes in women’s distance running.

Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, the Olympic silver medallist and recent European 10K champion, followed in second place with a remarkable national record of 8:26.27. Meanwhile, Ireland’s Sarah Healy claimed third with a personal best of 8:27.02, rounding out a fiercely contested race.

Coming into Rabat, Chebet’s personal best in the 3000m stood at 8:24.05, placing her 36th on the all-time list. Yet her proven prowess over the 5000m — where she recently displayed impressive form in Xiamen — and her closing speed made her the clear favorite heading into the event. She lived up to expectations and then some, obliterating her previous mark by more than 12 seconds and setting a pace few could match.

Chebet’s 2024 season has been nothing short of phenomenal. Having claimed double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the last Olympic Games, she also remains the two-time and reigning Diamond League champion. Her historic achievements include the fastest times in history in the women’s 10,000m, as well as the mixed and women’s-only 5km road races.

As the Diamond League season progresses, all eyes will be on Beatrice Chebet as she looks to extend her winning streak and add to an already illustrious career.
