American 400m specialist Quincy HALL stole the spotlight at the press conference ahead of the 2025 Rabat Diamond League that is set to take place on Sunday, May 25.
With a mix of humor and humility, offering a memorable reaction when asked if he’d ever consider switching to the 200 metres.
“Would I like to race a 200m?” Hall repeated with a smile. “Never!”
The room erupted in laughter. Hall, known for his strong finishes and long stride, explained why the half-lap sprint simply doesn’t suit him.
“I’m a cross-country guy at heart,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of back kick and a big stride. I’m not quick on the curves. Guys like these just pull away from me too early, and there’s not enough room for me to come back.”
While his answer provided comic relief, Hall also struck a more serious tone when reflecting on his current form. He also expressed expectations following a recent injury that kept him off the track for several months.
“This is only my second meet since the injury I picked up in Pennsylvania,” he said. “I’m not putting pressure on myself. No expectations. I’m just taking it step by step.”
The 25-year-old, who claimed bronze in the 400m at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, emphasized his focus on health and gradual improvement over results.
“I never focus on any athlete,” he added. “My goal right now is just to stay healthy, stay in my lane—literally—and enjoy the process.”
Quincy Hall Test
Despite his modesty, Hall will face a highly competitive lineup in Rabat. Among the athletics in the men’s 400m are fellow Americans Johnnie Blockburger, Jacory Patterson, and Bryce Deadmon, alongside Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori and Leungo Scotch. South Africa’s Zakithi Nene, Canada’s Christopher Morales Williams, and Morocco’s own Walid El Boussiri.
As a result, the event is expected to be one of the highlights of the meet. For Hall, the focus is personal progress rather than podiums.
“I’m just grateful to be here,” he concluded. “If I can finish strong, stay healthy, and keep building — that’s a win for me.”
The Rabat Diamond League takes place this sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with fans eagerly awaiting one of the most stacked 400m showdowns of the season.
