Maia McCoy Stuns Sprinters with Season-Best Performance at Nairobi’s Kip Keino Classic

Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi— Maia McCoy delivered a commanding performance to win the women’s 100 meters in 11.21 seconds, overcoming a stiff -1.7 m/s headwind. The American-born Liberian sprinter’s victory was bolstered by a strong showing from compatriot Destiny Smith-Barnett, who finished second with a season-best 11.29 seconds, securing a memorable one-two finish for Liberia.

Egypt’s Bassant Hemida took third place with a season-best 11.49 seconds, while Botswana’s Refilwe Murangi and Tsaone Bakani Sebele rounded out the top six. American Shannon Ray finished fifth, clocking 11.64 seconds, and Kenyan sprinters Milcent Ndoro and Doreen Waka completed the field.

Born in the United States, Maia McCoy recently switched her allegiance back to Team USA after a stint representing Liberia. Despite the change, she showed no signs of slowing down, demonstrating elite speed and composure against a competitive international field.
