Botswana’s Olympic gold medalist and World Athletics of the Year 2024, Letsile Tebogo, is set to lead the Kids Athletics Day campaign launching on 6 April 2025.
On April 2, 2025, World Athletics named him the ambassador for the World Athletics Kids Programme.
Meanwhile, Letsile will celebrate Kids Athletic Day on May 7, 2025. This initiative inspires children globally to be more active through athletics.
Letsile captured the world’s attention by winning gold in the 200 meters at the Paris Olympics. In the Olympics, he set a personal best of 19.46 seconds. In addition, this achievement made him the fifth fastest man in the world.
The 21-year-old aims to motivate the next generation to enjoy athletics for fun, fitness, and personal growth.
Tebogo over the role,” Athletics has given me so many opportunities, and I want to inspire young people to believe in themselves, dream big, and enjoy the sport.
“The kids` Athletics programme is about making athletics accessible and fun, and I am honoured to be part of this initiative to help develop future champions -on and off track.”
On the other hand, World President Sebastian Coe praised Tebogo, saying,
“I am always delighted when a talent like Letsile Tebogo emerges through our competition structures. It shows other young talented athletes the pathway.
Letsile is confident, determined, and humble and is already inspiring a whole generation of young potential athletes and children as they learn to make sports part of every day. This is why I am so pleased Letsile has agreed to be an ambassador for kids` athletics.” Coe said.
Moreover, as part of the ambassadorial role, Tebogo will participate in the ” Relay Around the World Challenge”, a head of the Kids` Athletics Day.
However, this challenge is inspired by the upcoming World Athletics Relays in Gaungzhou, China. The relays are designed to be the biggest and most inclusive kids` Athletics activity yet.
The campaign will officially launch on April 6, 2025.
