Olympic 200m silver medalist Kenny Bednarek, has sent a powerful message to his track rivals following an impressive performance at the Grand Slam Track event in Kingston, Jamaica.

Bednarek’s dominant victory in both the 100m and 200m races over the weekend has set the stage for a thrilling season ahead.

Bednarek won the 100m in 10.07 seconds, narrowly beating Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who finished second in 10.08. Zharnel Hughes of Britain, who crossed the line in 10.13 seconds, took third place in the event.

He went on to dominate the 200m race with a blistering time of 20.07 seconds, finishing ahead of Hughes in 20.37 and fellow American Fred Kerley with 20.39.

Kenny Bednarek earned 12 points per race, totaling 24 points, securing the top spot in the Short Sprints standings. He leads Hughes by 10 points, giving him a significant advantage heading into the remainder of the season.

In a statement shared on X,  Bednarek expressed his satisfaction with the results.

“I told you I was gonna dominate. I told you I was gonna have fun. And I told you I was gonna win,” he wrote.

“Thank you, Grand Slam Track. Thank you, Kingston. And thank you to my family, friends, and fans for supporting me on this journey.

“@MJGold [Michael Johnson] has created something special – this series is raising the bar for athletes, for fans, and for the sport. I’ve never been to a meet where my experience and my brand were respected at this level.”

Bednarek earned a record $100,000 in prize money from his two victories, the largest sum of his career. His financial reward will fuel his ambitions as he prepares for high-stakes races against rivals like Noah Lyles and Letsile Tebogo.

As Bednarek prepares for upcoming competitions, he stays focused on training and his goal of securing more victories.

“This is just the beginning,” Bednarek declared confidently.

“More Slams on the way, and you can bet I’ll be training harder, stacking points, and chasing that bag.”
