Olympic champion Justin Gatlin sends heartfelt condolences to Coach Joe Lee after the tragic loss of his father. Known for mentoring rising stars like Quincy Wilson and Masai Russell at the Bullis School, Lee has long been a pillar of strength for young athletes.

During a recent episode in the Ready Set Go , Gatlin, alongside Rodney Green, took a moment to honor the legacy of Lee’s father and offer solace during this painful time.

“Shout-out to Coach Joe Lee. You’re in our prayers, man. Stay strong,” Gatlin said.

“His father was an elite athlete. He comes from an era where if you believed you could do it, you put yourself into it, and you became successful, especially as a Black man in America.”

The Olympic gold medalist closed with a heartfelt message of solidarity.

“Shout out to Coach Joe Lee and his family. Stay strong.”

 

Coach Joe Lee’s emotional tribute to his father

While the track community offered support, Lee himself turned to Instagram to share an intimate and heartbreaking farewell.

“My Dad was a lot of things to a lot of people,” Lee wrote,

His father’s remarkable achievements include, Ivy League graduate at Columbia University, NASA engineer, civic leader, and military police officer.

For Lee, his father was more than a role model; he was the foundation of his values, work ethic, and passion for mentoring young athletes.

“I’m heartbroken beyond belief, but happy he’s reached his heavenly home. I LOVE YOU, DAD! I hope you’re proud. See you later, young fella.”
