Australia’s middle-distance star Jessica Hull will make a much-anticipated return to Monaco’s Wanda Diamond League, chasing another historic record.
A year ago, Hull etched her name into the athletics history books at Herculis EBS Monaco when she stormed to a sensational 5:19.70 in the 2000m, smashing the world record and securing her first-ever Diamond League victory. It was a career-defining moment for the Australian, one that resonated across the athletics world as one of six world records set during the 2024 Diamond League season.
Now, Hull is back, this time targeting the 1000m event, where she will attempt to better the Oceanian record of 2:32.94, set by fellow Australian Abbey Caldwell at the Diamond League season opener in Xiamen last month.
The 27-year-old’s return to Monaco is one of the highlights of what’s shaping up to be a star-studded Herculis EBS meeting on July 11. She joins an elite field of global athletics icons, including men’s pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis, Olympic high jump champion Hamish Kerr, and teenage Australian sprint prodigy Gout Gout.
The Wanda Diamond League remains the pinnacle of one-day athletics meetings worldwide, featuring 15 of the sport’s most prestigious events. Athletes accumulate points across 14 meetings, all in pursuit of qualifying for the showpiece two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich, set for 27 and 28 August 2025.
With history already in her grasp and another record firmly in her sights, Jessica Hull’s Monaco return promises to be one of the defining moments of the 2025 athletics season.
