Africa`s sprint sensation, Ferdinand Omanyala, urges Uganda to host the World Championship. Omanyala has expressed his satisfaction with the Mandela National Stadium. The sprint sensation told the Vision Sports that the stadium meets international standards, making it an ideal venue for high-profile athletics competitions.
Ferdinad Omanyala lastly competed at the stadium in the 2017 Ugandan Championship, where his results were cancelled due to a doping ban.
“This is great, man, If it were not for these standards, I wouldn’t be here. This stadium is up to standard, and I think you guys should bid to host a World Championship in future because the state of the art of this stadium is very good. I’ve travelled across the world, and I’ve seen stadiums, so when I say it’s good, it’s good,” Omanyala said.
The Africa and Commonwealth champion was competing at Uganda Athletics National trials in preparation for the Diamond League, Kip Keino Classic and World Athletics Championship in Tokyo in September. Omanyala won the competitions with a 100-meter record time of 10.09 seconds. Additionally, he competed in the 4×100 meter relay, where his team clocked 39.50 seconds to secure victory.
Omanyala`s journey to becoming Africa`s man started in 2015, during his university days, when he transitioned from Rugby to athletics.
His breakthrough came in 2021 when he set an African record of 9.77 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic.
Ferdinand Omanyala has also hinted at plans to extend his foundation to Uganda, with the help of his friend Tarsis Orogot, in his bid to uplift sprinting in Africa. He has stated that he is always in touch with Orogot in his bid to help better athletics, and Orogot has agreed to Omanyala`s request.
“He is a great guy, I have seen him grow and get to where he is now and it’s a good friendship. Actually, I spoke to him about what I want to do for sprinters in Uganda and he is in. in future you shall see us working together,” Ferdinand Omanyala added.
Ferdinand Omanyala emphasized his commitment to working with talented athletes who are disciplined and dedicated to excellence. He believes fostering teamwork, discipline, innovation, and perseverance will elevate African athletics globally while empowering young athletes with opportunities for success.
