Eliud Kipchoge Set for Sydney Marathon Debut in August

Two time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has announced that he will compete in the Sydney Marathon this August.

The 40-year-old Kenyan, who secured Olympic gold in 2016 and 2020, made history in 2019 by becoming the first man to complete a marathon in under two hours, clocking 1:59:40 in Vienna.

However, this feat was not officially recognized as a record due to the absence of standard competition regulations.

I’m so excited. This is not only my first time running the TCS Sydney Marathon but also my first time running in Oceania. Running in Australia is a great opportunity for me,” he said as reported by Reuters News.

Eliud Kipchoge boasts an impressive track record, having won 16 out of 21 officially recognized marathons, including an unbroken streak of 10 victories between 2014 and 2019.

Before heading to Sydney, he is set to participate at London Marathon in April.
