Mary Moraa arrives at the Diamond League showdown in Stockholm with renewed focus and determination to dominate the women’s 800m. After a challenging start to her 2025 season, Moraa has bounced back impressively, winning the Miami Grand Slam Track event in early May with a time of 1:59.51.
This victory followed a mixed 2024 season where she claimed multiple wins, including the Diamond League meetings in Doha, Lausanne, Zurich, and Brussels, and set a world best in the 600m at ISTAF 2024. Mary Moraa also secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics and finished second at the Kenyan Olympic trials, demonstrating resilience and competitive spirit.
However, Moraa has a hard task ahead, as she must prepare more than enough to face Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson. Other formidable rivals include world champion Athing Mu and Olympic silver medalist Tsige Duguma.
Hodgkinson has maintained consistent form with strong finishes in recent Diamond League events, while Mu remains a top contender with solid performances throughout the season. Meanwhile, Duguma has shown steady progress and remains a threat in the 800m field. Thus proved to be serious rivals to Moraa.
In recent remarks on social media, Mary emphasised patience and persistence in her training journey.
“You can’t rush greatness,” she posted, highlighting her mindset as she prepares for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
She also shared motivational posts and workout videos, signalling her commitment to returning stronger after a fair 2025 season start.
“We are back to the grind… ticking the boxes,” she wrote, crediting her coach Alex Sang for guiding her preparation.
