The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has officially transferred the hosting rights of the 3rd Combined U18/U20 African Athletics Championships from Oran, Algeria, to Abeokuta City in Ogun State, Nigeria. However, the organisation has not disclosed the reason for the cancellation of the event in Algeria.
Meanwhile,Nigeria agreed to step in as the new host, with Abeokuta located just 40 kilometers from Lagos, offering a strategic and accessible venue for the championships. The original dates remain largely intact, with a slight adjustment to the schedule to accommodate the change.
The revised timetable of the Events Transferred to Nigeria is as follows:
- July 13, 2025: CAA Council Meeting
- July 14-15, 2025: CAA Congress
- July 15, 2025: Technical Meeting
- July 16-20, 2025: 3rd Combined U18/U20 African Championships
The Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, currently undergoing renovations including the installation of a new tartan track. Meanwhile, the stadium is expected to provide a world-class facility for the event. Additionally, this stadium was previously highlighted as a prime venue for regional athletics competitions, reinforcing Nigeria’s readiness to host continental events.
The championships will gather the continent’s best young athletes under 18 and 20 years old. They will compete across various track and field disciplines.
