Botswana’s sprint sensationLetsile Tebogo, is no stranger to breaking records on the track — but away from the spotlight, he’s quietly nurturing a different kind of legacy on farm.

The world-renowned athlete recently took to his Instagram story to share a heartwarming moment: one of his ewes had just given birth to twins.

The brief post offered fans a rare glimpse into Tebogo’s rural life, where his passion for farming and livestock continues to grow. The image featured a healthy herd of Kalahari Red goats, including the newborns, with their deep brown coats contrasting beautifully against the dusty Botswana landscape.

While the story might have surprised some, Tebogo has long been open about his love for agriculture. In a previous interview with World Athletics, he revealed that farming has become a major part of his life. Both as a mental escape and a smart investment.

“I personally had 10 animals – cows and goats – and then the Botswana government gave me about 30 more. I am still counting; there are still more coming from them,” he said.

“Farming takes me away from city life so I can just refresh my mental life,” he added. “In the city, you are not a free human, but in the bush, you are a free human being.”

The decision to rear Kalahari Red goats, known for their resilience and adaptability to harsh climates, speaks volumes about Tebogo’s thoughtful approach on farm. As an elite athlete constantly on the move, he’s chosen a breed that thrives with minimal care — much like how he thrives under pressure.

Coonecting With His Roots on Farm

Beyond business, farming connects Letsile Tebogo to his roots. In Botswana, livestock ownership is deeply cultural — a symbol of heritage, pride, and belonging. By investing in this space. Tebogo is not only safeguarding his future but also honoring the values that shaped him.

His story mirrors a growing trend among African athletes who are preparing for life beyond sports by embracing ventures that are sustainable, meaningful, and identity-driven.

Whether or not his humble herd grows into a full-fledged agribusiness, Tebogo’s journey from sprinting to shepherding is a powerful metaphor. It shows that even those who fly on the track can find deep purpose in the rhythm of the land.
