However, Abraham Kiptum’s career took a dark turn on April 26, 2019, when the Athletics Integrity Unit announced a four-year ban for an anti-doping violation detected through his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).

This method monitors biological markers over time to detect doping effects rather than specific substances. The news shocked the athletics world and deeply affected Abraham Kiptum’s personal life.

His wife left him, unable to cope with the scandal, but his parents and brother stood firmly by his side.

Reflecting on this painful period, Abraham Kiptum said,

“It’s simply the test of human belief and love.” He acknowledges the challenge but remains hopeful about his future: “Competitive days are so few, but training and relaxing, I will make it to the podium.

I have learned that money comes in and goes out. Yes, I had money when I set the world record, but I learned a lesson to stay with the right people until I go back to marathon….everything will be okay as time goes on.”

In conclusion, Abraham Kiptum’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of adversity, resilience and determination can light the path back to greatness.
