World record holder and African sprint hurdling queen, Tobi Amusan, has made a resounding return to the World Athletics women’s overall top 100 rankings, reclaiming her spot among the sport’s global elite.
After dropping out of the prestigious list last year for the first time since the introduction of the ranking system in 2019, when she entered at No. 96, Amusan has powered her way back to 88th position with a ranking score of 1366.
The Nigerian star’s comeback has been fueled by a series of electrifying performances on the international stage. Notably, she clocked two blistering times of 12.45 seconds and delivered a season’s best of 12.24s at the 2025 Paris Diamond League, securing a strong second-place finish behind American Grace Stark. The Paris result marked Amusan’s fastest time since her sensational 12.12s world record run at the World Championships in Oregon, USA, back in 2022.

Amusan’s surge in form has also seen her reclaim the title of Nigeria’s top-ranked female athlete. She surpasses sprinter Favour Ofili, who closed 2024 as the country’s highest-placed woman but has since slipped to 175th globally.
In the 100m hurdles discipline, Amusan has climbed back into the global top 10, currently positioned at No. 9 after finishing last season ranked 13th.
With her form building ahead of a packed championship calendar, the 27-year-old looks primed to challenge for more podium finishes and possibly emulate or even surpass her outstanding 2022 campaign, a year in which she ended as the world’s best sprint hurdler and the fifth-ranked woman across all track and field events.
