Treble European champion Femke Bol proved once again why she’s one of the most electrifying talents in athletics, storming to victory in the women’s 400 meters at the 2025 European Athletics Team Championships in Madrid.
Running in the intense heat of the Spanish capital, Bol clocked an outstanding 49.48 seconds, smashing her own championship record and coming within a whisker of her national outdoor best of 49.44.
Starting from lane six in heat A, the Amersfoort native displayed trademark control and power, surging into the lead before the final bend and comfortably holding off her rivals in the home stretch.
Poland’s Natalia Bukowiecka settled for second place in 50.14, while Spain’s Paula Sevilla claimed third in 50.70.

The win earned the Netherlands a crucial 16 points, helping them surge to the top of the team standings after three events, ahead of the Czech Republic and Poland. Bol’s performance was not only a personal triumph but a significant boost for Dutch hopes in the overall competition.

Femke Bol, is the reigning European indoor and outdoor champion. She was voted the 2022 European Athlete of the Year.
This isn’t the first time Bol has led the charge for Team Netherlands. In 2021, she helped secure promotion to the 1st Division with a win in 50.37. Now, four years later, she’s writing another golden chapter in her storied career.
