Kenny Bednarek has enjoyed a stellar start to 2025, dominating the Grand Slam Track series with impressive wins in both the 100m and 200m.

While in Kingston, Jamaica, he clocked 10.07 seconds and 20.07 seconds, then followed up with a personal best 9.86 seconds in the 100m and 19.95 seconds in the 200m in Philadelphia, earning $400,000 and the “Racer of the Year” title.

Kenny Bednarek’s consistency and speed have made him a favourite heading into the U.S. National Championships.

Why Fred Kerley’s Experience Casts a Long Shadow on Kenny Bednarek?

However, track analyst Coach Rob has provided a sobering perspective on Bednarek’s standing compared to Fred Kerley.

While Kenny Bednarek’s times and sub-20-second 200m performances (25 such runs, third-most ever) are outstanding, Fred Kerley’s proven championship pedigree remains unmatched.

Fred Kerley, the 2022 World Champion in the 100m and multiple Olympic medalist, occupies the elite “A tier,” whereas Bednarek is still seen as “B+ to A-” due to his lack of a global title.

Fred Kerley’s recent season has had ups and downs, including a disappointing seventh-place finish in the 100m at the Grand Slam Track Kingston event, but experts like Rodney Green remain confident that Kerley will peak again by July.

His experience and ability to perform on the biggest stages make him the benchmark Kenny Bednarek must surpass.

Moreover, Kenny Bednarek’s challenge is clear: while his raw speed and consistency have dazzled fans, he must now translate that into championship success.

A 100m win at the upcoming Nationals or a major global meet could elevate him to Fred Kerley’s level, but for now, Kerley’s legacy and experience loom large over the sprinting landscape.

In addition, as the U.S National Championships take shape, fans eagerly anticipate a thrilling showdown between the two at the event. With Kenny Bednarek aiming to prove he belongs at the very top of the sprinting world.
