Rescheduled Neeraj Chopra Classic to Light Up Bengaluru on July 5

The Neeraj Chopra Classic  2025 javelin throw competition will now take place on July 5, with Bengaluru’s Kanteerava Stadium retained as the venue, the organisers confirmed.

Initially slated for May 24 at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana, the event had to be relocated due to inadequate floodlighting. The shift to Bengaluru was later followed by a postponement amid rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

The NC Classic is poised to become a historic occasion. India’s first-ever World Athletics ‘A’ category or Continental Tour Gold-level event. It will be headlined by two-time Olympic medallist and reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj , also co-organises the meet alongside JSW Sports, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and World Athletics (WA).

“Bringing the Neeraj Chopra Classic back this quickly has taken an enormous collective effort, and we’re happy to confirm its return on July 5,” said Karan Yadav, Chief Commercial Officer of JSW Sports.

“The energy around this event is bigger than ever. We’re set to deliver a celebration of javelin that’s bolder, better, and even more unforgettable.”

Confirmed Stars At Neeraj Chopra Classic

The competition is expected to feature a world-class field. Confirmed international stars include Anderson Peters (Grenada, two-time world champion). Thomas Röhler (Germany, Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist), and Julius Yego (Kenya, 2015 world champion).

Also on the roster are Curtis Thompson (USA), Genki Dean (Japan). Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Brazil), and Rumesh Pathirage (Sri Lanka) will also feature.

Leading the Indian charge will be Neeraj Chopra himself, joined by Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena, Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav, and Sahil Silwal.

Notably, Sachin recently finished second behind Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea.

Chopra, who opted out of the Asian Championships, began his 2025 campaign with a victory at the Potch Invitational Meet in South Africa. This was followed by a runner-up finish at both the Diamond League. He set a new Indian record of 90.23m—and the Janusz Kusociński Memorial in Poland.
