The Wanda Diamond League is set to make a thrilling return to the Italian capital in 2025, with the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea lighting up the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on June 6.
Now in its 45th edition, the Golden Gala continues to honor the legacy of Pietro Mennea, the Italian sprint icon whose name was officially attached to the meet in 2013 following his passing.
The 2025 meet is expected to feature 11 Olympic champions and more than 60 medalists from recent Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships. This guarantees fans a spectacle of elite competition.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala will be looking for redemption after being edged out in the last meet against South African Akani Simbine in Rabat. Omanyala will compete against fast American sprinters such as Courtney Lindsey, Brandon Hicklin, and Trayvon Bromell.
Also, world record-holder Gudaf Tsegay and Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet will go head-to-head over 5000m. Chebet had won over 5000m in Xiamen, beating Tsegay by one second. But Tsegay is the last woman to beat Chebet in a Diamond League race, doing so at the Diamond League Final in Eugene in 2023 and with a world record to boot (14:00.21).
This year’s Diamond League season kicked off in China with events on April 26 and May 3, before moving to Qatar (May 16) and Morocco (May 25).
Rome now hosts the fifth leg of the 15-meet calendar, setting the stage for rising intensity as athletes push toward the Diamond League Final in Zurich (August 27–28).
