The 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres champion, Eilish McColgan, has firmly established herself as one of the world’s leading athletes.
Her gold medal at the Games was a monumental achievement, but it’s just one highlight in a year filled with extraordinary milestones.
After making a stunning debut at the London Marathon, where she set a new Scottish record with a time of 2:24:25, McColgan found herself navigating a year that blended athletic triumphs with transformative personal moments.
Instead of another race, her next stop was Japan, where a life-changing proposal awaited. Under the majestic Mount Fuji, McColgan’s long-time partner and fellow Olympian, Michael Rimmer, proposed — and she joyfully accepted. Sharing her excitement with her followers, she posted: “Absolutely worth the jet lag. Yes to forever! #offthemarket.”
As her engagement took center stage, McColgan’s travels continued. This time, she and Rimmer flew to Hong Kong, where they met two of their coaching clients, Phoebe and her husband.
The couple, whom they had coached virtually for years, were finally able to meet face-to-face. McColgan captured the moment, on her Instagram story saying:
“We’ve coached Phoebe and her husband for a few years, so it was great to finally meet them. One of the coolest parts of our job — coaching runners ALL around the world!”
