The Kenyan star then launched her track season in spectacular fashion at the Xiamen Diamond League, the season opener, where she produced a thrilling sprint finish to win the 5,000m in a world-leading 14:27.12. She edged out Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay (14:28.18) and Birke Haylom (14:28.80) in a nail-biting finale.
Next up, Chebet will headline the women’s 3000m in Rabat, aiming to maintain her momentum ahead of her Diamond League 5,000m title defence, which she won in Brussels last season with a stunning 14:09.82 finish — ahead of Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa (14:21.89) and Fotyen Tesfey (14:28.53).
