Gabby Thomas delivered a world-class performance on Saturday, May 3, 2025, winning the women’s 200 meters at the Grand Slam Track meet in Miami. Racing at the Ansin Sports Complex, Thomas clocked a wind-legal 21.95 seconds- her fastest time of the season and the only sub-22-second mark in the field. She pulled away from her rivals in the final meters, confirming her reputation as one of the world’s premier sprinters.

Meanwhile, the women’s 200m final was a highlight of the meet, featuring fierce competition from top American sprinters. From Tamari Davis, who finished second in 22.05, to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who claimed third place in 22.15. The race capped a weekend of high-stakes sprinting, with every point counting toward the overall Slam title.

Despite her impressive victory, Thomas narrowly missed out on the $100,000 Grand Slam Track short sprints crown. The title instead went to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who edged Thomas by just one point in the overall standings. Jefferson-Wooden’s consistency in both the 100m and 200m proved decisive.

Jeferson-Wooden had earlier won the 100m dash in 10.75, with Davis second and Thomas finishing fourth in 10.97. Her combined results secured her back-to-back Slam titles in the short sprints group.

On the other hand, Gabby Thomas, the reigning Olympic 200m champion and three-time gold medalist from Paris 2024, was “disappointed” not to claim the overall Slam title but remained positive about her performance. She acknowledged the depth of the field and the challenge of competing against the best sprinters in the world. Additionally, she vowed to return stronger for the next Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia at the end of May.

The Miami showdown highlighted the razor-thin margins at the elite level. Thomas’s victory in the 200m builds momentum for the remainder of her season, while Jefferson-Wooden’s $100,000 Slam win cements her status among the sport’s elite.
