The highly anticipated second edition of the Athlos NYC Women’s Only event is set to make an even bigger impact in 2025, with the addition of field events headlined by Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall. Athlos is a  female-only track and field meet in New York celebrating women’s athletics.

After the inaugural event in September 2024 captivated over three million viewers worldwide, organizers are doubling down on star power and innovation by introducing the long jump, a discipline conspicuously absent from last year’s lineup.

The event, founded by Reddit co-founder and Angel City FC investor Alexis Ohanian, is scheduled for October 10, 2025, once again at Icahn Stadium in New York.

A New Era for Women’s Track and Field

Despite the growing popularity of women’s sports, track and field has often lagged behind in sponsorship dollars, media coverage, and fan engagement compared to men’s sports and team-based leagues.

Davis-Woodhall is changing that narrative by leveraging her platform as an Olympic champion and social media influencer.

“My entire goal, since I’ve gone to track and field, was to change the sport,” she told Adweek during the Possible Miami panel.

The timing of this announcement is particularly significant, coming just days after Nike revealed its new sponsorship deals with Davis-Woodhall and her husband, Paralympic gold medalist Hunter Woodhall.

Additionally, Davis-Woodhall has been working with Dick’s Sporting Goods as part of their social media creator program, further expanding her reach beyond traditional sports broadcasting.

The Power of Social Media in Elevating the Sport

One of the biggest challenges in track and field is the fleeting nature of competitions. Unlike team sports with multi-game seasons, a long jump event may last only an hour and a half, with minimal TV coverage dedicated to each athlete.

Davis-Woodhall has turned to social media to bridge this gap, sharing behind-the-scenes content that extends the lifespan of her performances and connects fans to the personalities and stories behind the sport.

“This is why we post on social media—to show the behind-the-scenes of what we do,” she explained.

“We get to share our stories. We’ve brought in eyes to the sport that never would have imagined being fans of track and field.”

Ohanian praised her digital savvy, noting that her ability to control her own narrative has given her a unique advantage in an industry where traditional media often overlooks track and field athletes outside of Olympic years.

“You don’t have the major networks telling your story,” he said.

“So you tell it yourself. Because you’ve been so good at exercising that muscle, you have this advantage.”

What’s Next for Davis-Woodhall and Athlos?

With the Athlos 2025 announcement and her Nike deal secured, Davis-Woodhall is already looking ahead to new opportunities. During her conversation with Ohanian, she playfully hinted at future sponsorships.

“Got a good spot right here if you want to put your name.”

Ohanian views Athlos as more than just a competition; she sees it as a movement to redefine how people value women’s sports. By creating a dedicated platform for female track and field athletes, he and Davis-Woodhall are challenging the status quo and proving that there is both audience demand and financial viability in investing in women’s athletics.
