Eliud Kipchoge, the two-time Olympic champion and former world record holder, finished sixth at the 2025 TCS London Marathon on Sunday, April 27, clocking a time of 2:05:25 in his 22nd career marathon. The Kenyan great, bidding for his fifth London title, ran strongly in the early stages, positioning himself near the front of the lead pack and even leading for some miles after the pacers dropped off. However, Eliud Kipchoge lost contact with the leaders just before the 30-kilometre mark and had to settle for sixth place behind winner Sabastian Sawe, who surged away with a stunning 2:02:27 finish.
In a candid post-race interview with Let’s Run. Com, Eliud Kipchoge reflected on his performance
“I`m happy with the performance, I’m happy with this place, I’m happy to run here to finish with my footsteps, continue with the movement, as running is a movement.
I am here not to prove to anybody but to run the Olympic spirit.”
Eliud Kipchoge has, however, acknowledged the likes of Sebastian Sawe and the rest of the young generation. He couldn’t hide his joy.
Actually, I am happy with them. Its the young generation, i am old enough. This is my 22nd year in running. I am the happiest man to run with the youngest .”
Kipchoge also acknowledged that the second half, which was a bit warmer, dealt a blow to him, though he managed to push through.
“It was a little bit hard, but I am happy with it.”
