Three-time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon will begin her quest for a record-equalling sixth Diamond League title, headlining the 1000m race at the season opener in Xiamen, China, on April 26.
The four-time world gold medalist just finished an extraordinary 2024 season, solidifying her legacy as a middle-distance legend.
Kipyegon’s 2024 season was nothing short of historic. At the Paris Olympics, she won her third consecutive 1500m gold medal, setting a new Olympic record in the process. Since 2021, she’s been unbeaten in the 1500m and secured her fifth Diamond League title in Brussels last September.
Beyond her championship pedigree, Kipyegon has redefined the limits of middle-distance running. In 2023 and 2024 alone, she shattered four world records, including the 1500m (3:49.11), mile (4:07.64), 5000m (14:05.20), and a near-miss in the 1000m (2:29.15)—just 0.2 seconds shy of Svetlana Masterkova’s long-standing world record (2:28.98).
The 2025 Diamond League features 15 elite meets, with athletes earning points in 14 events to qualify for Zurich’s finale, August 27-28.
Kipyegon’s main competition in the 1000m is anticipated from Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji and Britain’s Laura Muir.
With the 2025 World Championships ahead, Kipyegon aims for a dominant Diamond League run to cement her global middle-distance legacy.
