Jamaican sprint sensation Kishane Thompson has declared he is far from his peak despite a stunning 2024 season that saw him explode onto the global stage with an Olympic silver medal and the year’s fastest 100m time in 9.77s.

The 23-year-old, nearly shocked the world by almost dethroning American rival Noah Lyles in Paris, losing by a razor-thin margin of 0.005 seconds. Now, with his sights set on the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Thompson believes his best is yet to come.

“It’s gone and passed,” Thompson told AFP as quoted by RTL Sports.

“I can’t look back. I mean, I can reflect on my mistakes… but it doesn’t help if I’m going to be angry. I’ve just got to accept it and move on.”

Kishane Thompson sees his Olympic performance as a “major stepping stone”, both in his athletic development and personal growth.

Training alongside stars like Shericka Jackson under renowned coach Stephen Francis at MVP Track Club, he has refined his craft, making subtle but crucial adjustments to his preparation.

This season, Thompson has taken an unconventional path by competing in indoor 60m races, including a win in Astana, Kazakhstan. This move has helped him sharpen his reaction times and adapt his towering frame to the explosive demands of sprinting.

Unlike many rivals, he has also stayed injury-free, setting the stage for a potentially dominant outdoor campaign.

“It’s not perfect. The only perfection that I can see is me improving. If it’s perfect, you don’t have any room for improvement,” he said.

While Usain Bolt’s legendary 9.58s world record remains the ultimate benchmark, Thompson refuses to fixate on clocking a specific time. Instead, he focuses on execution.

“The times are going to come once I listen to my coach’s instructions. I won’t say the perfect race, but the best race at this given moment in my life.”

“Japan is the goal. That’s the aim.”
