Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, will compete at Uganda’s third National Athletics Trials this Saturday, March 29.
The Kenyan sprint sensation will headline the event alongside nine other elite Kenyan runners.
President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), Dominic Otuchet has expressed enthusiasm about the star athlete’s presence.
“We are glad that Omanyala, who is the fastest athlete over 100 meters in Africa and among the top 10 in the world, will grace our national trials. He will compete in the men’s 100m and the 4x100m relay,” Otuchet told Xinhua.
The trials serve as a crucial platform for athletes to sharpen their skills ahead of major international competitions, including the World Championships.
Omanyala will also engage in mentorship programs aimed at inspiring Uganda’s next generation of sprinters.
“Omanyala will be involved in a program to inspire young Ugandan sprinters,” Otuchet explained.
The 2022 Commonwealth 100m champion has dominated African sprinting, also winning gold in the 100m and 4x100m at the African Championships.
His explosive speed and remarkable consistency have cemented his status as one of the world’s top sprinters.
Ferdinand Omanyala recently competed at the South Africa Grand Prix, where he finished third in his first 100m event in 10.22 seconds, before bouncing back with an impressive victory (10.08 seconds) a week later.
Omanyala began his 2025 campaign at the Athletics Kenya (AK) Track and Field Meeting in Thika, where he showcased his dominance in the preliminary rounds.
Clocking 10.7 seconds in the heats and 10.2 in the semifinals, he opted out of the final, allowing compatriot Boniface Mweresa to take the win.
