With exactly 100 days to go, anticipation is building ahead of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season opener, set to take centre stage in Doha and usher in another thrilling year of world-class athletics.
The Mazzraty Doha Meeting will once again launch the prestigious one-day series, marking the first stop on an intense global journey that spans 15 cities across four continents. For the world’s elite athletes, the road begins in Qatar with one clear target in sight, qualification for the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 3–4.
Over recent seasons, the Diamond League has firmly established itself as the pinnacle of one-day athletics competition. Featuring head-to-head battles between the sport’s biggest stars at every meeting, the series has produced 16 official world records in just the last three seasons, reinforcing its reputation as a stage where history is made.
The platform has also propelled a new generation of stars into the global spotlight. Athletes such as Letsile Tebogo, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet have all used the Diamond League as a springboard to Olympic and World Championship success.
Looking ahead to 2026, expectations are sky-high. American sprint king Noah Lyles will be chasing a record-equalling seventh Diamond Trophy, while Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon will aim to extend her remarkable legacy, having already set five world records at Diamond League meetings.
Swedish pole vault sensation Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is another headline act confirmed for Doha. The world record holder, who currently owns an all-time best of 6.30m, has previously set historic marks at Diamond League events in Xiamen, Eugene, Silesia and Stockholm. Beyond Doha, Duplantis is also scheduled to compete in London and Silesia during the 2026 season.
