by Beryl Oyoo

Canada’s Camryn Rogers cemented her place among the sport’s greats after delivering a record-breaking performance to retain her hammer throw crown at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday (15).

The 26-year-old, who won Olympic gold in Paris last year, unleashed a massive 80.51m effort in the second round, a North American record, that moved her to second on the all-time list behind Poland’s Anita Włodarczyk. Rogers’ mark was just 34cm short of Włodarczyk’s championship record, underlining her growing dominance in the event.
