Kenyan middle-distance stars Faith Kipyegon and Mary Moraa have touched down in the United States as they prepare to compete at the prestigious 2025 Prefontaine Classic, set for Saturday, July 5, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Faith Kipyegon, the reigning queen of middle-distance running and holder of world records in both the 1500m and the mile, arrives in excellent form after her Nike Breaking 4 attempt, which she missed by just a few seconds but improved her world record this year.
She is chasing her seventh Prefontaine Classic 1500m title, a testament to her decade-long dominance in the event. Faith Kipyegon has won the 1500m at Hayward Field multiple times, including a commanding victory last year where she clocked 3:50.72.
On the other hand, Mary Moraa, also a world-class Kenyan athlete, who specialises in 800m, joins Kipyegon in the lineup, bringing her own world-leading credentials and fierce competitiveness.

Their arrival in Eugene marks the final phase of preparations ahead of the meet, where they will aim to continue Kenya’s proud tradition of excellence in middle-distance running on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.
Meanwhile, fans can look forward to a memorable showdown as these Kenyan stars chase yet more glory at Hayward Field in their respective fields.
