“We’re Just Getting Started”-Kenny Bednarek’s Bold Mission Ahead of Prefontaine Classic

American sprinter Kenny Bednarek has had a stellar start to 2025, turning heads with blistering performances in the now-defunct Grand Slam Track circuit.

Across stops in Jamaica, Miami, and Philadelphia, Bednarek was dominating. His standout moment came in Kingston, where he clocked a sensational 19.67 in the 200m, one of the fastest times of the season, firmly establishing himself as a serious contender ahead of the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 5, 2025.

“This year has been pretty exciting, starting off with Grand Slam,” Bednarek shared on his X(Fomerly Twitter) account.

“I feel like that league was built just for me.”

For Bednarek, the Grand Slam Track series wasn’t merely about podium finishes and prize purses. It was a platform to showcase his speed, charisma, and resilience after battling a series of frustrating injuries.

Racing on iconic tracks, including Jamaica’s National Stadium, home to legends like Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, was a career milestone.

“I’d never raced there before, but that’s the history of track and field right there,” he reflected.

The circuit’s localized schedule, with meets close to home, proved a game-changer for Bednarek. Fewer long-haul flights meant more recovery, focused training blocks, and energized performances.

“As an athlete, that made things easier. I could train longer, recover faster, and the fans showed up in a big way,” he noted.

Now, as he eyes the Prefontaine Classic, arguably the crown jewel of track meets, Bednarek’s confidence is unmistakable.

“This year’s gonna be really fun, and we’re just getting started,” he declared.

A Comeback Fueled by Grit and Precision

Bednarek’s 2025 campaign is as much about redemption as it is about ambition. After a series of setbacks, including pulled hamstrings and a broken toe, the sprinter is on a mission to rewrite his narrative.

In 2021, he became the first athlete in history to log 10 wind-legal, sub-20-second 200m races in a single season, a feat that hinted at greatness before injuries slowed his progress.

But Bednarek didn’t let adversity define him. Last season, he powered through 24 races in six months, showcasing remarkable resilience. From a strict gluten-free, organic diet to investing in cutting-edge tools like a home sauna, cold plunge, red-light therapy, and a PEMF machine, Bednarek has built a fortress around his fitness.

“It’s a lot of money, but at the end of the day, our body is an investment,” he explained.

“Track and field is not forever, so you might as well put the money down, recover, and get ready for the next day and try to survive.”

That mindset has already paid dividends, with Bednarek ticking both “run fast” and “make money” off his list during the Grand Slam season. His disciplined approach ensures he stays sharp, races smart, and avoids the pitfalls that sidelined him in recent years.

Chasing History in Eugene

With the Prefontaine Classic just days away, Bednarek is chasing history.

The meet will offer a crucial test ahead of the U.S. Trials and the World Championships, where Bednarek hopes to cement his legacy in the 200m.

“A healthy Kenny is a dangerous Kenny,” he quipped.

If his recent performances are anything to go by, Bednarek’s comeback is no longer a question of ‘if’, it’s a matter of how far he can go.
