Olympic champion Masai Russell is set to headline a blockbuster women’s 100m hurdles clash when the world’s fastest hurdlers meet at the Prefontaine Classic on July 4 at the legendary Hayward Field in Eugene. The race promises to be one of the most anticipated showdowns of the season on the Diamond League, bringing together Olympic champions, world record holders and global medalists on one stage.

Fans can expect a thrilling battle as the American star lines up against some of the biggest names in the event. Among them will be Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan, who stunned the athletics world with her remarkable 12.12 performance, as well as Jamaica’s two-time world champion Danielle Williams.

Adding further excitement to the field will be fellow American Grace Stark, the World Athletics Championships bronze medallist whose rapid rise has made her one of the most dangerous competitors in the discipline.

For Masai Russell, the 2026 season represents another opportunity to cement her place among the world’s elite hurdlers. The American is chasing her first-ever Diamond League title after producing the most successful campaign of her career in the prestigious one-day series last year. Russell captured her maiden Diamond League victory in Silesia in August, delivering a sensational performance that saw her set a new series record of 12.19 seconds.

Russell will not have it easy in front of the home crowd at Hayward Field, especially with Grace Stark arriving in strong form. Stark enjoyed a breakthrough run in the Diamond League last season, breaking meeting records in Keqiao, Stockholm, and Paris. That impressive streak helped propel her to a podium finish at the World Athletics Championships, confirming her place among the sport’s fastest rising stars.

Despite the fierce competition, Masai Russell remains one of the athletes to beat as she looks to build momentum toward the latter stages of the Diamond League season. However, seasoned champions such as Tobi Amusan and Danielle Williams bring formidable credentials into the race.

Amusan dominated the Diamond League standings between 2021 and 2023, claiming three consecutive titles, while Williams captured the series crown in 2019 and added another world championship gold medal in World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023.

The Prefontaine Classic will serve as the ninth stop on the 2026 Diamond League calendar. The season begins in Doha on May 8 before traveling across four continents and 15 cities, ultimately culminating in the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4–5. With so many elite athletes converging on Eugene, the women’s 100m hurdles could deliver one of the most electrifying races of the entire season.
