American sprint sensation Sha’Carri Richardson says she is preparing for what could be a “legendary” season in 2026, despite the absence of a major global championship on the athletics calendar.

The charismatic U.S. star believes this year could be about far more than fast times on the track, hinting at personal growth and influence beyond competition as she continues to build her legacy in the sport.

Richardson made the bold remarks while promoting the women-only athletics event ATHLOS, an initiative backed by tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis icon Serena Williams. The event is designed to spotlight and elevate women’s sport.

Speaking about the upcoming season, Richardson said she feels something special could be on the horizon.

“I’m super excited for this season because I have a feeling that it’s going to be something legendary,” she said. “Not legendary just on the track but legendary as the woman I have been designed to be.”

The outspoken sprinter added that she is eager to embrace the spotlight rather than shy away from it.

“I’m super excited to take on the challenge to do that in front of the world—not allow the world to make me shield myself but to truly walk in embracing and stand firm in everything I’ve been working on,” she explained.

Building a legacy beyond sprinting

Richardson also praised the ATHLOS initiative, describing it as a powerful platform for female athletes.

“ATHLOS is a safe haven when it comes to women’s sports,” she said. “It’s at the foundation of the belief that we all feel inside of us, but actually creating the space to display it.”

She added that the project will continue to grow and play a major role in promoting women’s sport.

“ATHLOS is going to continue to grow, get bigger and better, and we’re going to continue to let the world know that women’s sports is here to stay.”

The American star has become one of the most recognizable figures in track and field—not only for her explosive speed but also for her bold personality and outspoken presence away from the track.

Turbulent moments off the track

However, Richardson’s career has also included moments of controversy. The sprinter recently had another run-in with law enforcement after being flagged for speeding.

The situation reportedly involved her boyfriend and fellow U.S. sprint star Christian Coleman, who was also present during the incident.

Despite the off-track drama, Richardson remains one of the sport’s biggest draws, capable of electrifying performances that captivate fans around the world.

A unique season for track and field

The 2026 athletics season presents an unusual landscape for elite athletes. The World Athletics Championships will not take place until next year, while the next Olympic Games are scheduled for 2028 in Los Angeles.

This year’s only major multi-sport championship is the Commonwealth Games, an event in which the United States does not participate.

That means athletes like Richardson will instead focus on high-profile meetings and professional competitions throughout the season.

For Richardson, however, the lack of a global championship appears to have done little to dampen her ambitions. If anything, the American sprinter seems determined to turn 2026 into a defining chapter of her career—one she hopes will be remembered as nothing short of legendary.
