Mondo Duplantis Eyes Sixth Diamond League Title at 2026 London Athletics Meet

by Beryl Oyoo

Pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis is set to make a high-profile return to the London Athletics Meet in July as he targets a sixth successive Wanda Diamond League title in 2026.

The Swedish superstar will headline the men’s pole vault on July 18, marking his first competition at the London Stadium since 2018, when at just 18 years old, he finished third behind Sam Kendricks and Renaud Lavillenie. Eight years later, Duplantis returns as a global athletics icon and one of the most dominant figures the sport has ever seen.

Duplantis has since evolved from a promising teenager into a generational talent, repeatedly pushing the limits of the pole vault. He has broken the world record 14 times since 2020, most recently clearing 6.30m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Before that, he thrilled home fans by resetting the record at the Stockholm Diamond League in June.

Alongside his record-breaking feats, Duplantis boasts an extraordinary medal haul, including two Olympic gold medals and three outdoor world titles, cementing his status as the face of modern athletics.

His dominance extends to the Wanda Diamond League, where he has racked up 41 victories and five overall titles, making him one of the most successful athletes in the series’ history. A sixth triumph in 2026 would not only underline his continued supremacy but also bring him within one title of equaling Lavillenie’s all-time record of seven Diamond Trophies.

As fans gear up for the 11th leg of the 2026 Diamond League season, all eyes will be on Duplantis as he soars back into London, chasing history, height, and yet another chapter in his remarkable career.
