Noah Lyles and Fiancée Junelle Bromfield Take Big Step Together After Track Season Ends

by Beryl Oyoo

Fresh off a historic track season, Noah Lyles and his fiancée, Jamaican relay runner Junelle Bromfield, have made a life-changing decision together, choosing to be baptized in their Christian faith.

The 200m world champion revealed the news on Instagram, posting a heartfelt video of the ceremony alongside Bromfield. Lyles captioned it with Joshua 24:15.

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

A Spiritual Awakening

Lyles’ decision comes after a season of highs and lows. Though he lost his 100m world title to Oblique Seville in Tokyo, he stormed back to claim his fourth consecutive 200m crown, tying Usain Bolt’s legendary record. Yet off the track, Lyles says his biggest victory has been rediscovering his faith.

Raised in a religious household, the American sprinter admits he drifted in his early years. But he has long felt a pull back to God, something he credited after his 100m triumph at the Paris Olympics.

“I had to find my own journey with God,” Lyles told Premier Christian Radio.

“He gave me a sign, and I said, ‘I’ll never doubt You again.’”

That faith was evident again in Tokyo, where before his 200m final he could be seen mouthing “Thank you, God” at the start line as quoted in his post-race chat with BBC Sport. After crossing the finish line in first place, he repeated the same words with a smile.

Faith has also been a cornerstone in Lyles’ battles off the track. The American has spoken openly about struggles with depression and anxiety, and how prayer and mental health advocacy have gone hand in hand in his journey.

With Bromfield now walking the same spiritual path beside him, the couple sees baptism as a foundation for their future together.

Still Chasing Bolt

Even as he deepens his spiritual roots, Lyles remains firmly focused on the track. Matching Bolt’s four straight 200m world titles has only fueled his hunger to make history in Beijing 2027.

“I can’t wait to become the only man to win five 200m titles,” he told The Guardian.

He has also hinted at chasing Bolt’s 19.19 world record, calling it his “more immediate goal.”

The Jamaican sprint legend has responded with playful skepticism, suggesting modern spikes give today’s athletes an edge. Lyles, however, is looking beyond the chatter, saying his priority is preparing the right race at the right time.

As Noah Lyles prepares for more history on the track, his baptism with Junelle Bromfield highlights an equally significant chapter off is, one grounded in love, faith, and shared conviction.
