The contest produced one of the most thrilling finales of the championships. Italy’s Andrea Dallavalle stunned the crowd when he jumped a personal best of 17.64m with his final attempt, briefly moving into gold medal position.
But Pichardo, showing composure under pressure, responded with the longest jump of the season to reclaim top spot and extend his glittering global medal collection, which began with a silver at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

Cuba’s Lázaro Martínez secured bronze with a season’s best of 17.49m, while Algeria’s Yasser Mohammed Triki, who opened strongly with 17.25m, slipped down to fourth. Jamaica’s Jordan Scott and Italy’s Andy Díaz Hernández followed closely, but neither could break into the medal positions.
For Pichardo, the victory underlined his dominance on the global stage and his ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most. The Portuguese star once again proved he is the man to beat in men’s triple jump.
