Thirteen years after his sensational Olympic breakthrough in London, Trinidad & Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott returned to the global summit by winning his second major title in the men’s javelin at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Thursday (18).
Walcott, who stunned the world as a teenager with his 2012 Olympic triumph, produced a composed series of throws, seizing control in the second round with 87.83m before extending to 88.16m in the fourth.

Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada secured silver with his second-round throw of 87.38m, while USA’s Curtis Thompson clinched a surprise bronze at 86.67m.
For India, it was a disappointing night. Defending champion and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra bowed out after struggling to find rhythm, managing only 84.03m to finish eighth. His arch-rival, Paris Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, also failed to threaten the podium, settling for 10th with 82.75m.
For Walcott, the triumph marked a remarkable resurgence and his first global crown since London 2012. For Chopra, however, it was a sobering reminder of the sport’s unforgiving nature, as the Indian star relinquished his crown in one of the most competitive javelin finals in recent history.
