World Athletics Championships 2025: Cordell Tinch Wins Men’s 110mh Gold

Cordell Tinch delivered an impressive performance to claim gold in the men’s 110m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday (16 September).

The 25-year-old American stormed to victory in 12.99 seconds, fending off a strong Jamaican challenge. Orlando Bennett took silver in a personal best of 13.08 seconds, while compatriot Tyler Mason equaled his personal best with 13.12 seconds to secure bronze.

Tinch’s triumph ended the six-year reign of Grant Holloway, who had dominated the event since winning his first world title in Doha in 2019. Holloway, the reigning Olympic champion, shockingly failed to qualify for the final after finishing sixth in his semi-final.

The victory was also a personal milestone for Tinch, who missed the Paris 2024 Olympic team by a single spot and famously spent three years away from athletics working various jobs, including selling phones and installing cable, before returning to the track.

With this world title, Tinch has firmly established himself as the new face of sprint hurdles, carrying the American tradition forward while signaling a new era in the event.
