Diamond League Zurich: Salwa Eid Naser Clinches Women’s 400m Title with Meeting Record

Salwa Eid Naser stopped the clock at 48.70 seconds, setting a new meeting record to win women’s 400m title at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich

The 27-year-old, who already owns two Diamond League titles from 2018 and 2019, powered past a high-quality field. Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic could only manage second in 49.23 seconds, while Norway’s Henriette Jæger thrilled fans by clocking a National Record of 49.49 seconds to finish third.

Naser entered the race with a season’s best of 48.67 seconds, close to her personal best of 48.14, and delivered once again when it mattered most.

The Paris 2024 Olympics silver-medallist was the only Bahraini athlete in action at the prestigious Weltklasse Zurich, with compatriots Winfred Yavi and Birhanu Balew withdrawing despite qualifying for the final.

Bahrain has now collected five Diamond Trophies across different seasons, with Naser accounting for three of them, alongside Yavi’s one and Rio 2016 Olympic champion Ruth Jebet’s two.

Looking ahead, Naser and her fellow stars will shift focus to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next year, where Bahrain aims to make a strong push for gold.
