Diamond League Zurich: Julien Alfred Sprints to Women’s 100m Title

Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred extended her golden form with another commanding display, storming to victory in the women’s 100m final at the Diamond League in Zurich. The Saint Lucian sprint star clocked 10.76 seconds out of lane four, powering clear from the start and never looking threatened as she underlined her dominance as the world’s premier short sprinter.

Alfred’s explosive start and smooth acceleration left the rest of the field chasing, with Jamaica’s Tia Clayton coming in second at 10.84 seconds, while Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith had to settle for third in 10.94.

American Jacious Sears finished strongly for fifth in 10.96, just behind Ta Lou-Smith and Asher-Smith, while New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs clocked 11.09 for sixth. Switzerland’s Salomé Kora delighted the home crowd with an eighth-place finish, but it was Alfred who stole the spotlight once again.

The 24-year-old looked unfazed by the cool and damp conditions at Letzigrund Stadium, focusing more on maintaining her rhythm and form than chasing records. Her win extends a remarkable streak and provides a firm answer to recent speculation about her fitness following a lengthy break from competition.

Alfred had last raced on July 19 in London, where she clocked a blistering 21.71 over 200m, still the world’s fastest time this season at that distance. Her Zurich victory, however, confirms her readiness for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo, where she will line up against Sha’Carri Richardson, Shericka Jackson, and Gabby Thomas.

With the Diamond League crown secured, Alfred’s attention now turns to Tokyo, where the women’s 100m promises to be one of the most hotly contested showdowns of the championships.
