Diamond League Zurich: Ackera Nugent stuns Danielle Williams and Grace Stark to win women’s 110mh title

Jamaican sprint hurdler Ackera Nugent delivered a sensational performance at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.30 seconds (-0.6).

The 22-year-old, who has been in impressive form throughout the season, held off a late charge from Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who equaled her own national record to take second place in 12.40 seconds. American Grace Stark claimed third with 12.44 seconds, while Jamaica’s veteran world champion Danielle Williams narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in 12.44 seconds.

For Nugent, this triumph crowns a remarkable season of consistency and resilience. She had earlier secured victory at the Prefontaine Classic in 12.32, placed third in Paris (12.30), and finished fourth in Lausanne (12.57).

Her journey to Zurich has been relentless, beginning indoors on February 2 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Nugent contested 10 indoor races, including a bronze-medal performance at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing on March 23, before transitioning outdoors in April.

The Jamaican star also impressed in the inaugural Grand Slam Track Series, claiming short hurdles titles in Kingston, Miami, and Philadelphia. In total, Nugent has raced 10 times in the 100m hurdles this year, complemented by three appearances in the 100m flat and one in the 200m.
