Jamaica’s Oblique Seville continued his sparkling 2025 season with a commanding victory in the men’s 100m at the Athletissima Lausanne Diamond League on Wednesday (20 August). The 23-year-old sprinted to 9.87 seconds in slippery conditions, defeating Olympic champion Noah Lyles for the second time this year.
Seville burst out of the blocks with explosive acceleration and never relinquished his lead, running strongly into a -0.3m/s headwind. His dominance silenced the packed Stade Olympique de la Pontaise as he opened a significant gap on the field early and carried it to the line.
Final Results Men’s 100m
- Oblique Seville (JAM) – 9.87 (-0.3)
- Noah Lyles (USA) – 10.02
- Ackeem Blake (JAM) – 10.02
- Akani Simbine (RSA) – 10.05
- Zharnel Hughes (GBR) – 10.09
- Brandon Hicklin (USA) – 10.20
- Courtney Lindsey (USA) – 10.27
- Timothé Mumenthaler (SUI) – 10.41
Lyles, who once again paid for a sluggish start, clawed back to secure second place ahead of Blake in a photo finish, both clocking 10.02. It marked yet another frustrating outing for the American star, who also fell short in London against Seville and in Silesia against fellow Jamaican Kishane Thompson.
For Seville, the victory represents another statement of intent ahead of next month’s World Championships in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Lyles, the defending world champion, is still chasing his first 100m win of the year as he works to shake off his slow early-season rhythm.
