Diamond League Silesia: Payton Otterdahl Claims Men’s Shot Put Title

Payton Otterdahl continued his impressive 2025 season by clinching the men’s shot put title at the Silesia Diamond League on Saturday. The American unleashed a winning throw of 22.28m, a mark that proved untouchable for the rest of the field under sunny conditions at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland.

The competition featured several of the world’s top throwers, but only Otterdahl and Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri managed to surpass the 22-metre mark. World leader Fabbri threw 22.10m to take second place, while fellow American Joe Kovacs claimed third with 21.82m.

The victory adds to Otterdahl’s growing list of career highlights, which include a fifth-place finish at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, a fourth-place result at the 2024 Olympic Games, and a triumph at the 2024 Rabat Diamond League. He also secured his second Olympic appearance at the 2024 USA Olympic Trials, producing a clutch 22.26m throw in the fifth round to book his ticket to Paris.

Otterdahl’s Silesia triumph also propelled him to second place in the 2025 Diamond League shot put qualification standings with 22 points, trailing only Kovacs on 25. With one qualification meeting left before the Diamond League Final, the race for the season trophy is set for a thrilling conclusion.
