Diamond League Silesia: Marileidy Paulino Stages Stunning Comeback to Win Women’s 400m

Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino produced a sensational late surge to win the women’s 400m at the Silesia Diamond League, running down Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser in the closing stages. The Dominican star, known for her trademark finishing kick, made up a huge deficit in the final 100m to take a convincing victory.

Paulino, who clinched Olympic gold in Paris with a record-breaking run of 48.17 seconds, stopped the clock in 49.18. Naser, who had led for most of the race, had to settle for second in 49.27, while Norway’s Henriette Jæger claimed third in 49.83. The race featured a highly competitive field, with several athletes clocking under 51 seconds.

Paulino’s triumph adds to an impressive 2024 season in which she also claimed victory at the Monaco Diamond League in 49.06 seconds and signed up for the inaugural season of Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track.

Her latest win in Silesia further cements her position as the dominant force in the women’s 400m heading into the final stretch of the Diamond League season.
